NBJH School-Parent Compact

Northbrook Junior High School and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the state’s learning standards.

This school-parent compact is in effect during the 2023-24 school year.

School Responsibilities

The Northbrook Junior High School Staff will:

  1. Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement standards as follows:
    • Create a welcoming and positive learning environment for students and parents.
    • Implement a well-rounded academic program and regularly assess student progress.
    • Provide student progress information at parent meetings and on report card
  2. Solicit parent feedback about school programs.
  3. Hold parent-teacher conferences to discuss items from this compact that relate to the individual child’s achievement. The parent-teacher conferences will be held in November and upon request by a parent or teacher.
  4. Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress.
  5. Provide parents reasonable access to staff. Specifically, staff will be available for consultation with parents as requested by a parent via email, note or phone.
  6. Provide opportunities for parent involvement at school, including building and district-level committees.

Parent Responsibilities

We, as parents, will support our children’s learning in the following ways:

  • Ensure excellent student attendance.
  • Ensure that academic responsibilities are completed.
  • Participate as appropriate, in decisions relating to my child’s education.
  • Stay informed about my child’s education and communicating with the school by promptly reading all notices from the school or the school district and  responding as appropriate.

Student Responsibilities

We, as students, will share the responsibility to improve our academic achievement and achieve the state’s high standards. Specifically, we will:

  • Put forth a concerted effort on all school assignments.
  • Demonstrate respectful and responsible behavior at school.
  • Self-advocate when questions arise or help is needed. Make positive contributions to the school community.
