Accelerated Placement Act
- The APA is a new state law that allows for automatic placement into the next most rigorous level of coursework if a student meets or exceeds state standards.
- This applies to English language arts, math, science and social studies.
- The APA does not replace any previous pathways to honors.
The intent of the law is to expand opportunities, access to challenging, rigorous curriculum, reduce subjective criteria and create consistent standards across the state for students earning honors credit.
GBN Course Levels
- College & Career Readiness - all 'core' classes and 'support' classes
- Accelerated Honors - placement is based on student scores on the Pre-ACT
- Enriched Honors - placement is based on 8th grade teacher feedback and standardized testing.
Special Considerations
- Accelerated Honors offered for Algebra; enriched honors for algebra is not offered.
- A student must be at least single accelerated in math to take enriched honors biology.
- Social studies placement looks at reading score for accelerated honors.
